Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced the signing of forward Mark Tinning to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Last season, Tinning played his first and only career NLL game for the eventual West Division Champion Arizona Sting. The 6'1", 188 lb. forward made a big impact in the January 22 match against the Calgary Roughnecks, registering 2G-2A-4P. The performance earned him a nomination for NLL Rookie of the Week.
"Mark is a talented young player and we're happy to be signing him," said Hamley. "It's unfortunate we weren't able to get him more playing time last season, but he definitely showed his potential in the one game he played for us. He's a great kid with huge up-side in terms of his lacrosse skills, and he'll definitely make the right side of our attack more competitive at training camp."
Tinning served as team captain for the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Kitchener-Waterloo Braves last year, finishing second on the team in scoring with 20G-36A-56P in 22 games. In 2004, the Kitchener, Ontario native registered 22G-31A-53P in 20 games for the Braves.
Originally drafted by Arizona in the second round (13th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft, Tinning played a major role in the Brock University Badgers' Baggataway Cup victory in 2004. The trophy is awarded to the top university lacrosse team in Canada.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
