AMARILLO, TEXAS - Hayden Stewart stopped 36 shots, but two goals in the final period of play helped the Amarillo Bulls to a 3-0 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night in front of 2,279 fans at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Corpus Christi had chances in the first period with Nick Monfils taking a pass and rushing in on a breakaway, only to have his arm hooked off the puck and didn't get a shot off.
The second frame did not start good on an interception by Beau Walker, Brady Ferguson worked the puck in on a two-on-one dropping it back to Ryan Cole who wristed it over the shoulder of Hayden Stewart for a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds into the period.
The Bulls shelled Hayden Stewart with 17 shots in the second but he kept Corpus Christi within a goal heading into the final stretch.
Clint Carlisle put pressure on Emil Romig who coughed up the puck right in front of the net. Carlisle fired it by Stewart to give Amarillo a 2-0 lead, unassisted at 3:36 of the third.
The Bulls tacked on another goal at the 6:42 mark of period three after Omar Mullan and TJ Sarcona each had a chance that was denied by Stewart, Blake Roubos got the final touch beating Stewart to seal a 3-0 win over Corpus Christi.
Hayden Stewart denied 36 of 39 shots in the loss.
