Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Ethan Stewart had a bounce-back outing after a rough month of May, but it wasn't enough as the Clearwater Threshers fell to the Bradenton Marauders, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Bright House Field.

Stewart had been cruising through the first four innings before allowing a bunt single to Jeff Roy. Roy stole second base to give Bradenton (28-28) a runner in scoring position with just one out. Stewart then gave up an RBI single to Adam Frazier, after falling behind in the count, 3-1.

Stewart pitched well after struggling through the month of May in which he went 1-3 with an 8.46 ERA. The lefty finished the day giving up just one run on seven hits through six innings while also collecting five strikeouts.

The game would be delayed for 20 minutes at the start of the seventh due to weather.

Lino Martinez came on in the seventh to take over for Stewart and allowed three runs on two hits in an inning of work.

Clearwater (12-43) responded with three runs of its own in the seventh.

Pete Lavin led off the frame with a double that squeaked by a diving Walker Gourley at first. After an Art Charles strikeout, Brandon Short ripped a double to left-center to cut the deficit to three.

The Threshers weren't finished, as Andrew Knapp crushed his first homer of the season into the left field bullpen to bring Clearwater within a run.

Kevin Walter did all he could to keep the Threshers within a run of Bradenton, going two innings and only allowing one hit.

The Marauders' bullpen was too much to overcome, however, as Bryton Trepagnier picked up his third save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Threshers will take on the Marauders in game three of the four-game series Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on threshersbaseball.com.
