Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, Tuesday announced that Steve Dumonski (DU-mon-ski) has agreed to a contract for the 2002-03 season. As per club policy, terms of the pact between the IceHogs and the power forward were not disclosed.

Dumonski, 25, is the third player to sign with the IceHogs for their fast approaching fourth season. Rockford also has center Jeff Antonovich and defenseman Jeff DaCosta under contract for 2002-03.

Dumonski, who has compiled nearly 800 penalty minutes and 300 games in four full seasons of professional hockey, will begin his second tour of duty with the IceHogs in October. He set career marks with 23 goals, 43 points, 215 penalty minutes and 69 games while with the IceHogs during the 2000-01 season. His Rockford totals included eight power play goals, and four game-winning goals. His 2000-01 season also included 10 multi-point, and three multi-goal games.

"I'm not coming here to score goals," said Dumonski, when asked if he could regain his 2000-01 scoring prowess. "But I think I'm capable of matching that total. I can't wait to get back to Rockford because the fans are great, and I've heard nothing but great things about Scott Bell."

Dumonski said Bell, the IceHogs head coach, showed a lot of interest in him and called often during the summer. Bell said he aggressively pursued Steve because he knew the 6-foot-1, 210 pound native of Dorion, Ontario would be a perfect fit in Rockford.

"He's a great team guy, both on and off the ice," said Bell, who also serves as the IceHogs director of hockey operations. "I'm excited to have him. He'll represent Rockford well."

Dumonski returns to the Forest City after spending the 2001-02 season in the East Coast Hockey League with the Richmond Renegades. In 65 games, he registered 11 goals, 21 assists, 32 points, and 145 penalty minutes. Dumonski had six multi-point games, and one multi-goal game during the 2001-02 season, and he finished the year with four goals and seven points in his last six contests.

Dumonski, who currently is preparing for his fifth full season of professional hockey, has averaged 68 games, 15 goals, 22 assists, 37 points, and 196 penalty minutes in his previous four seasons or work.

Season ticket packages for the 2002-03 IceHogs are now available, starting at just $98. Contact the IceHogs office at (815) 986-6465 for more details. Season ticket information can also be found at www.icehogs.com.
