Stefanovich and Monast earn TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 5, 2009 - Quebec Remparts forward Mikhail Stefanovich and defenseman Guillaume Monast today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 29, 2008 to January 4, 2009.

Stefanovich recorded seven goals, including two game-winners, and added an assist in three Remparts wins. Moreover, he registered a +7 rating. The right-winger enjoyed his best game of the week on Tuesday, scoring a career-high four goals in a 10-1 victory over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The Remparts are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak.

Jean-Philip Chabot (Olympiques), Matt Brown (Wildcats) and Luke Adam (Juniors) were also considered.

On the defensive side, blueliner Guillaume Monast gets the nod. In three games, Monast collected eight helpers while posting an impressive +8 rating. The Longueuil native, who is playing his final season in the QMJHL, had his best game versus the Drakkar on Tuesday, recording five assists in the big win. The Remparts sit in first place in the TELUS Eastern division stadings with 64 points.

Nicola Riopel (Wildcats), Charles Lavigne (Remparts) and Alain Goulet (Olympiques) were also strong candidates.
