Two-of-Three vs. Rage

The Youngstown SteelHounds finished their six game home stand on a high note as they took two-of-three games from the Rocky Mountain Rage over the weekend. The Hounds finish the six game stint 3-2-1. Friday night the Hounds took an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Eric Main and Steve Birnstill. Rocky Mountain held in there for most of the game but an empty net goal from Kevin Jarman sealed the deal as Youngstown won 5-3. Saturday night belonged to the Rage as seven different players scored as they routed the Hounds 7-1. Sunday afternoon the Hounds returned the favor as Mark Johnson scored two goals and Andy Franck made 25 saves on 26 shots as the Hounds won 5-1. The Hounds are 23-14-2 (48 points) and are one point back of the Mississippi RiverKings (24-14-1, 49 points) for second place in the Northeast Division.

What's on Tap: Back to the Road for Two

The Hounds return to the road this week starting on Friday when they take on the Odessa Jackalopes at 8:05. The Hounds then visit the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday night at 8:35. Friday night will be the one and only regular season meeting between the Hounds and Jackalopes this season. The Blazers are 18-19-4 (40 points) and are in third place in the Northwest Division. The Blazers trail the SteelHounds by eight points for the fifth and final playoff spot.

600 Points For Richards

Congratulations go to Hounds captain Chris Richards as he became the 10th player in Central Hockey League history to record 600 points for his career. His three assists on Friday night against the Rage propelled him to 601 points for his career. The ninth year pro and eight year CHL veteran has played 486 games for Macon, Indianapolis, Austin, New Mexico and Youngstown compiling 196 goals and 406 assists for 602 points.

Update on Alcombrack

Friday night Hounds defenseman Jeff Alcombrack suffered an injury that rushed him to a local medical facility. A CAT scan on Saturday showed that Alcombrack's condition had stabilized and that there was no swelling. Alcombrack's return date is uncertain; however he does plan on returning to the team in time for the playoffs.

$1 Beers on Friday's in February

The Youngstown SteelHounds announced today that every Friday home game in February will be "Fan Appreciation Friday." The Hounds will host a trio of Northern Conference rivals on Fan Appreciation Fridays. Youngstown will take on the Mississippi RiverKings on February 8th, the Oklahoma City Blazers on the 15th and the Wichita Thunder on the 29th. Each contest is scheduled for a 7:05 PM face-off.
