Florida Panthers prospect and OHL 'On the Run' Player of the Week Owen Tippett is the new goal scoring leader in Mississauga Steelheads all-time franchise history.
The 19-year-old right-winger scored twice as part of a four-point performance in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves, netting his 110th and 111th career goals to surpass Darryl Bootland (1998-2002) for most in the 22-year history of the franchise.
Tippett's 16 goals and 26 points this season have included a hat-trick and four different two-goal performances as the Steelheads have surged to the top of the Central Division with a 14-6-2-0 record.
The Peterborough, Ont. native boasts a total of 111 goals, 85 assists and 196 points over his 175 career OHL regular season games since being the fourth overall pick of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. Tippett has also added 27 points (14-13-27) over 33 career playoff contests, helping the Trout win an Eastern Conference title in 2017.
Florida's first round (10th overall) pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Tippett is a former OHL First All-Rookie Team member and World Under-17 Hockey Challenge gold medalist. He's also represented Canada in both the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship. He recently suited up for Team OHL in his third season being participating in the CIBC Canada Russia Series.
Tippett and the Steelheads are back in action this week with a Thursday night trip to London aired live across the country on Sportsnet. They'll be back at home Friday to host the North Bay Battalion before heading to Sudbury for a Saturday tilt with the Wolves.
