BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC announced today that the club has signed midfielder Drew Sckundrich to his first professional contract. The move is pending league and federation approval.

"It's an awesome feeling signing your first professional contract and getting to come back to the organization and see Jim Curtin and Brendan Burke that I'm familiar with and welcome me into the club and this great organization," Skundrich said. "It was a great feeling to finally write my name on paper to do what I love for a living. It's been a long journey and it's a dream come true for me."

"We're lucky to be able to add a young player in Drew who is versatile and who has proved over and over throughout his college career that he is a leader by example and tireless worker," Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke said. "He has been on our radar since his academy days when Jim and I first came across him with PA Classics and in training with our academy. I'm excited to start getting to work with Drew again."

Skundrich joins Steel FC after being selected in the second round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by LA Galaxy. The 22-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of winning experience having been a part of Stanford University's three-consecutive NCAA Championships from 2015-17. During his time with the Cardinal, he was a two-time co-team captain his junior and senior season while making 82 appearances. During his four season, Skundrich netted nine goals and added 13 assists while the team won three-straight PAC-12 Championships. During his senior season, he earned All-PAC 12 first team honors after scoring five goals and registering five assists in 2017. In his junior year of competition where he scored four goals and added three assists, he was named for the league's second team.

Along with collegiate soccer, Skundrich spent time in the Premier Development League, spending the summer of 2016 with Burlingame Dragons FC. In eight matches with the club, he gained 690 minutes of experience as he helped guide the team to an appearance in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Skundrich's signing is also a return to Philadelphia Union organization, where he competed for the Union U-17's under current first team head coach Jim Curtin. A native of nearby Lancaster, Pa., Skundrich was a part of the Union team that hoisted the 2012 Generation adidas Cup, defeating Toronto FC in penalty kicks.

Skundrich and Steel FC kick off the 2018 USL campaign against the Richmond Kickers on Sunday, March 18. Kick off from Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University is scheduled for 2 p.m.
