Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
Although 672 miles separate them, the rivalry between the Quad City Steamwheelers and the Tennessee Valley Vipers is one of the most heated in arenafootball2.
Round 7 of the match-up is scheduled for tomorrow night at the Von Braun Civic Center (a.k.a. the "Snake Pit") in Huntsville, AL, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Steamwheelers have faired pretty well in the "Snake Pit" in their three visits to the arena, posting victories and all three attempts. Last years 48-38 âWheelers victory on June 22nd at the Von Braun Center avenged an earlier 60-40 loss to the Vipers at The MARK on June 8th. Some have said it was the best game that the Steamwheelers played all of last season.
The first ever meeting between these two teams came on June 24, 2000 when the Vipers gave the âWheelers one of their biggest scares of their undefeated season. It was only a threat, as the Steamwheelers came away with a 51-37 victory. It didn't take too much longer for the teams to face off again.
It was August 11, 2000 where these same two teams faced off in the first ever ArenaCup. In the most exciting game of the year, the Steamwheelers trailed, for the first time in team history, only to come back and defeat the Vipers by a final score of 68-59.
The Steamwheelers are looking to avenge their season opening loss to the Hawaiian Islanders last Friday night at The MARK, the âWheelers third ever loss in the building. They will return home on Friday, April 18th to take on the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
