Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers inaugural season kicker Jimmy Kibble has been reassigned to the team by the arenafootball2 league office. Kibble is expected to suit up for Friday night's 2003 home opener against the Mohegan Wolves.

"It's important for me to keep playing and kicking on a regular basis," said Kibble. "I knew all along that if I was going to play in the af2 this year, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was the place I wanted to be. For me to have the opportunity to play here again is an honor," he added.

Kibble, who began 2003 as the opening-day kicker for the AFL's New York Dragons, finished the Pioneers inaugural season among the league leaders in virtually every af2 kicking category. He was fifth in field goal attempts (42) and field goals made (13), third in PAT kicking percentage (85%), eighth in field goal percentage (31%), and ninth in PAT's made (68). In addition, Kibble was second in team scoring with 107 points.

"Jimmy is a good, solid kicker with arena experience. That's what you need," said Pioneers Head Coach Dean Cokinos.

The team also announced that wide receiver/linebacker Cosmo DeMatteo was assigned last night by the league. DeMatteo recently participated in the NFLE's Barcelona Dragons' training camp.

"He's a higher caliber of player," said Coach Cokinos. "We'll expect big things from him."

The Pioneers have dedicated the 2003 season to the memory of Johnny Unitas, and will retire number "19" in a banner-raising ceremony prior to tomorrow's home opener. Members of the Unitas family will also be in attendance for the game. In addition, all players on the team's roster will wear number "19" on their helmets for the duration of the season.

Individual game tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the First Union Arena box office or through Ticketmaster (570-693-4100). Ticket prices for all 2003 regular season games start at just $9.00.

Fans may still inquire about season and group tickets by contacting the Pioneers' ticketing office at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848.

And don't forget to check out this week's continuing coverage of the AFL on NBC Sundays at 12:00PM.
