Jr. StreetKings to Perform at Xplorers Home Opener

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.â The Jr. StreetKings roller hockey league will step into the limelight this weekend as they perform a major exhibition game during the Xplorers af2 football half-time at the DeSoto Civic Center Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Bakersfield Blitz.
The league consists of about 60 boys and girls on four teams. This exhibition game precedes the league's third season, after its founding last summer by Memphis RiverKings Team Captain Don Parsons.
The building of the rink this summer was funded by Maddox Foundation in Hernando and designed by Parsons. Along with Parsons, other current and former RiverKings players like goalie Mark Richards, forward Jay Neal and defenseman Kevin Fricke help coach and instruct league members.
The Xplorers game will be the first time the league will get to show off their skills to a mass audience. Evan Walls, age 9, told his mother he can't wait.
"He's very excited about performing at the game," Walls' mother, Alicia Walls, said. "He's not a shy person at all. He's really excited about it. He's decided this is his sport. He's played baseball since he was little, but he's decided he wants to play hockey."
Shelly Klaus' son Sam, age 10, has participated in every Jr. StreetKings event since the first day.
"His exact words to me about this weekend were, âOooh, I'm going to be a star!'" Klaus said. "He's never performed in front of a huge crowd other than the StreetKings parents. It's definitely going to make him feel that way."
