Steamwheelers to Hold Open House, Inter-Squad Scrimmage

DAVENPORT, Iowa — This Sunday, March 21, the Quad City Steamwheelers will play the Blue-Gold pre-season game, an abbreviated scrimmage game open to the public at no charge at The MARK of the Quad Cities. This will be the first and only chance to catch the Steamwheelers in action before their season opener on April 3, against the Manchester (N.H.) Wolves.

Doors open to the public at 12 p.m. for season ticket holders to pick-up their tickets or for those fans who wish to pick out seats to purchase.

Those interested in purchasing season tickets for the Fifth Anniversary season will have a chance to see the Blue-Gold game from their seats during the Pick-A-Seat open house, which runs from noon-5 p.m. Anyone who purchases two or more season tickets will receive a free, collectors edition full-sized Fifth Anniversary autograph ball, a $25 value.

Fans can then get their autograph footballs signed by the entire team during the KWQC TV-6 V.I.P. autograph party, which starts at 1:30 p.m.

Season Ticket holders will be invited on to the field for refreshments and autograph signings with the players, coaches, and DeckMate cheerleaders.

The MARK will broadcast the AFL on NBC on the JumboTron. This week's featured game in the Quad City market matches the Chicago Rush and the Orlando Predators.

At 3:30 p.m. the Steamwheelers will conduct the annual Blue-Gold inter-squad pre-season scrimmage for about an hour with the open house for picking out season tickets concluding at 5 p.m. Coach Ingold plans to put his 32-man roster through their paces on The MARK playing field. It will be the only chance the team has to work in Arena Football game condition environment before the opening regular season game on April 3. Tickets for the game against the Manchester (NH) Wolves go on sale tomorrow at The MARK of the Quad Cities and through all TicketMaster outlets. Parking and admission for this event is free and merchandise and refreshments will be sold throughout the open house.

Several former af2 coaches have joined AFL teams and more than 175 players have advanced to the AFL over the past three years.

Several players have moved on to the NFL from the af2 including the ‘Wheelers standout defensive rush end in 2003, Asa Francis, who last month signed with the Buffalo Bills to play in NFL Europe this spring.

The Steamwheelers are gearing up for their Fifth Anniversary season as one of the charter members of the league. Season tickets are currently on sale starting as low as $54.
