Steamwheelers Defeat the Tennessee Valley Vipers 45-22

(Moline, Ill.) - The Quad City Steamwheelers improved to 6-3 on the season after it jumped out to a 38-7 lead over the Tennessee Valley Vipers (4-5) in front of 3,565 at The MARK of the Quad Cities.

Defensive back Jordan Davis, who appeared in his second game this season, earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors for his efforts in the contest that included a team-high five tackles, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception and two pass breakups. With the 'Wheelers up 7-0 Davis recovered a fumble that setup a one-yard Jeff Macrea touchdown run, to put Quad City up 14-0. Late in the second half a 31-yard interception return by the defensive back setup Kris Peters' second touchdown catch of the game to give the 'Wheelers a 35-7 lead. Finally, Davis forced a fumble to open the third quarter, which allowed quarterback J.J. Raterink to find Jack Walker Jr. on a 10-yard pass to give the 'Wheelers a 45-7 lead to start the third quarter.

Raterink, who finished the game with 129 yards, five touchdowns and 12 completions, found Peters and Walker Jr., for two touchdown completions each. Fullback Jeff Macrea and wide receiver Tom Anthony led the team with 30 and 25 rushing yards respectively. Walker Jr., also finished with two interceptions and earned the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award.

For the Vipers quarterback Ryan Porter, who played in his second game for Tennessee Valley, finished with 205 yards and two touchdowns on 16 completions. His favorite targets were Travis Blanchard and Joel Babb. Babb finished the game with six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown, while Blanchard notched six receptions for 88 yards. Former 'Wheeler Troy Graham led the Vipers defense as he tallied a game-high 6.5 tackles and an interception.

The Steamwheelers return to action on Friday, June 8 when the team travels to face Midwest division foe, Fort Wayne. The team returns home on Friday, June 22 to face former 'Wheelers head coach Rich Ingold and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers.
