Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Quad City Steamwheelers head coach Rich Ingold was a former coach there. Former Steamwheelers quarterback Tony Zimmerman starred there, so why not look to Duquesne University for another standout athlete.

That is exactly what Ingold did in recruiting WR/LB Jeremy Conley, who was assigned to the Steamwheelers on Monday by the arenafootball2 league office.

“I coached him for a season at Duquesne and Zimmerman threw to him in Conley ’s freshman (Zimmerman’s senior) season,” Ingold said. “He is the type of guy that if you throw the ball his way he is going to go make a play.”

Conley saw game action with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2003 training camp prior to his signing with the Steamwheelers, signing a free agent from just about down the street.

“He is a big guy and is aggressive to the ball,” Ingold said. “If he goes one-on-one with any defensive back in the league, my money is going on Conley.

“He will fight, scratch and claw to come up with the ball.”

In college, Conley was one of the best receivers to ever wear a Duquesne Dukes football jersey; sitting atop the record books in numerous categories. One of his records that fans of the Steamwheelers might enjoy would be his 95-yard touchdown reception in his freshman year in 1998. The catch is the schoolÂ’s longest pass and longest touchdown reception. What is so spectacular about that catch? It came from the arm of former Steamwheelers quarterback Tony Zimmerman.

“I believe he was one of the most dominant receivers at the NCAA Division I-AA level,” Ingold added. “He will be one of the best players in the af2 next season.

“His play is exciting to watch and the sky is the limit for him.”

Conley also holds the DU record for career receiving yards (2,696) and holds the single-game records for yards (245) and receptions (13). In 2002 he was named Consensus All-American, Don Hansen & Sports Network All-American, MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-MAAC.
