Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa – With a healthy compliment of Iowa Hawkeyes on the Quad City Steamwheelers squad it would only be fitting to add a few Iowa State Cyclones to the roster.

And so it was, as the arenafootball2 league assigned the Steamwheelers FB/LB Jesse Beckom out of Iowa State University.

"The last Iowa State player that I had here is making a lot of money with the New York Dragons of the AFL right now," Ingold said referring to former Steamwheelers WR/LB Chris Anthony.

In his senior year at Iowa State University, Beckom, the Cyclone team captain totaled 56 tackles (25 assisted), two going for a loss of four yards, three sacks going for losses totaling 32 yards. Beckom also added three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

In 1998, Beckom earned Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year after a stellar season. He had 76 tackles (20 assisted), four for a loss of 13 yards, 3.5 sacks for a loss of 23 yards and added a fumble recovery.

"Chris (Anthony) recommended him to us, he is very physical and has a fantastic football body," Ingold said. "He is a great pass rusher and hard-working.

"We'll have to see how he gets into the mix of the Arena Football game."

In 1997, the Chicago native was named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year at ISU as a sophomore. Prior to attending Iowa State, Beckom began his college career at Trinity International of the NAIA in Deerfield, Ill.
