
Steamers win sixth in a row

Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - Jordan Glover pitched six innings, allowing three hits and three runs (two earned) to the Generals and the Steamer offense gave him 17 runs on 15 hits to secure Edenton's sixth win in a row.
Glover set down the first nine Generals he faced through the first three innings and the Steamers bats plated five runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI hit batsman, two RBI fielder's choice's and a two run John Polonius single.
Edenton followed up with a three run second inning on Vinnie Mejia's two run single and a sacrifice fly by Mitch Wells to make it an 8-0 Steamer lead.
The Generals got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when a passed ball allowed Corbin Shive to score after he was hit by a pitch from Glover to cut the lead to 8-1.
Edenton got the run back in the bottom of the fifth when Joey Wendle reached on an error that allowed Nick Gaeta to score the ninth run of the game for Edenton.
Jorge Saez hit his second home run of the season in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 9-3 Steamers, but that was all the scoring the Generals got on his night.
Edenton put the game away for good with another five run inning in the bottom of the sixth. Gaeta brought home a run with an RBI single, followed by a two run single by Brett Christopher and an error that led to Gaeta scoring on the hit as well. Brian Blasik hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the final run of the sixth and it was 14-3 Steamers.
Ryan Brenner picked up RBI number five of the season with a walk in the bottom of the seventh to make it 15-3 Edenton. In the bottom of the eighth John Polonius hit his third home run of the season; a two run shot that finished the scoring for the Steamers and the game at 17-3.
Edenton improved to 12-4 with their best offensive game of the season, setting game highs in runs scored and hits. Petersburg fell to 3-13 on the season. These same two teams will play a double header tonight in Petersburg.
The Edenton Steamers compete during the summer at Historic Hicks Field in downtown Historic Edenton, North Carolina. Heading into its 15th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 44 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
