Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers dominated the Petersburg Generals on opening day, taking home a 7-0 victory at Historic Hicks Field on Tuesday night. Edenton (1-0) pitchers struck out a total of 15 batters, while Petersburg (0-1) dropped their fourth opening day game in five years.

Perry DellaValle picked up the win in his first start for the Clams. DellaValle (1-0) put on a show, fanning 10 batters in five innings, including the first three he faced, while walking five batters and allowing just one hit.

Hunter Peck shouldered the loss for the Generals, stepping off the mound after four innings. Peck (0-1) surrendered four runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking one.

Edenton got the bats going early, plating four runs in the first inning. Leadoff man Daymon Totherow started things off, singling on the first pitch he saw. After Trey Hair was hit by a pitch, Peck balked to put two runners in scoring position, and Jimbo Pernetti took advantage of the situation and singled in two runs. Aaron Aucker followed with a double to score another run, and he would come around to score on a Brandon Gragilla groundball to second after a Thatcher Coleman single moved Aucker third.

The Steamers added to their 4-0 lead in the fifth. Aucker led off the frame with his second double of the night, and Josh Whisler added a second two-bagger to score Aucker for the Clams' fifth run. After a wild pitch put Whisler on third, Coleman finished off the scoring with a two-run shot over the left field wall to bring the score to 7-0.

The Steamers make the trip up to Hampton, VA, to take on the Peninsula Pilots on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The Teal and Black returns to Hicks Field to finish off a home-and-home with the Pilots on Thursday night at 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
