Edenton Steamers News Release
MOREHEAD CITY, NC - The Edenton Steamers rallied for two runs in the final two innings to take a 3-2 victory over the Morehead City Marlins on Wednesday night. Edenton (10-15) has won three of its last five since snapping an eight-game losing skid, while Morehead City (13-12) failed to string together consecutive wins for the sixth straight time.
Sam Beattie earned the win for the Teal and Black. Beattie (1-1) finished off the Marlins without allowing a hit or a walk while fanning two batters over the final two innings.
John Luke Curtis took the loss for the Marlins. Curtis (3-2) hurled the final 1.1 innings, striking out two Steamers but allowing the game-winning homerun in the ninth.
Tony Rosselli got the scoring started with a bang, putting a ball over the centerfield fence to give the Clams a 1-0 lead in the second.
Both sides went quite until the sixth inning when Morehead City grabbed the lead. Tyler Weyenburg led off the bottom of the inning with a single, moving to third on a double off the bat of Matthew Batten. Christian Campbell brought home Weyenburg on a groundout to second, and Romeo Cortina gave the Marlins their only lead with a single in the next at bat that brought the score to 2-1.
The Steamers battled back in the eighth with a two-out rally. Back to back walks for Aaron Aucker and Trey Hair put runners on first and second, and Thatcher Coleman wasted no time tying the game, singling in Aucker on the first pitch of the next at bat.
The Teal and Black retook the lead in the ninth. Pinch hitter Andrew Hinckley stepped up to the dish with two gone and launched a moonshot over wall in left to put Edenton up 3-2. Beattie shut down the Marlins in the ninth to give the Steamers their third win at Big Rock Stadium this season.
The Edenton Steamers visit the Wilmington Sharks on Thursday night before returning home to host the Peninsula Pilots at 7 p.m. on Friday. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
