FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.--Zack Martinelli stifled the opposition early and the SwampDogs sprung for four runs in the first on their way to an 8-4 victory over the first place Peninsula Pilots Wednesday night.

Martinelli held the league's second best offense to just two hits in six and two thirds innings and was backed by eight runs in the first three innings to pick up his second win of the year.

The SwampDogs offense followed right behind Martinelli, putting together a four run first inning on five base hits, all of which were singles. Hunter Dolshun (UMBC) added a solo home run in the second and the SwampDogs struck for three more runs in the third to build the eight run lead.

But the SwampDogs knew the division leading Pilots would not go quietly and used some solid defense and good relief to close the game. Peter Moore (Lehigh) secured the final four outs to snap the Pilots' four game winning streak.

Trey Vickers (Wichita State) continued his hot hitting with a 2-4 night including a double, RBI, and run scored. Jack Conley (NC State) added a 3-4 evening with an RBI and run scored.

The SwampDogs have won five consecutive games at the Swamp and six of their last seven overall. The 'Dogs hit the road for a three game road trip beginning Thursday in Holly Springs against the Salamanders at 7:00pm.

The SwampDogs next home game is the Honoring America Fireworks Tribute on Sunday, July 3rd at 7:05pm. Gates open at 5:00pm and fans are encouraged to arrive early as a large crowd is expected for the biggest fireworks spectacular in Fayetteville.
