FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Peninsula Pilots had a four-game win streak snapped as they fell 8-4 to the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Wednesday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The SwampDogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and held an 8-0 advantage after three innings. Back-to-back singles by Dan Leckie and Trey Vickers led off the inning for the hosts. After Leckie was thrown out at second, a single by Hunter Dolshun and a walk to Patrick Donnelly loaded the bases. After a wild pitch scored the game's first run, a RBI groundout by Hunter Morris brought in another run. Fayetteville tacked on two more runs with RBI singles by David Summerfield and Jack Conley.

Dolshun added a solo home run in the second inning to push the lead to 5-0. RBI singles by Frankie Jezioro and Donnelly as well as a run scored on an error pushed the lead to 8-0.

The Pilots tacked on two runs in the fourth inning to get on the scoreboard. Devin Mahoney (St. Louis) reached on a bunt single. After a hit by pitch to Charlie Cody (Virginia), the two completed a successful double steal. Mahoney and Cody would then come around to score on Hunter Taylor's (South Carolina) two-run single.

Peninsula added two more in the seventh to cut the deficit to 8-4. After two quick outs to start the inning, Joe Poduslenko (Seton Hall) drew a walk and advanced to second on a fielding error on a batted ball by Josh Close (Liberty). A wild pitch moved the two up a base and Kyle McPherson (James Madison) scored two with a single up the middle.

Zack Martinelli picked up the win to move to 2-1 on the season. He tossed 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight. Welby Malczewski (Auburn) was charged with the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season.
