Steamers prepared for long weekend

March 29, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - Tomorrow morning is the beginning to a rarity in the Major Indoor Soccer League. The first place St. Louis Steamers (21-5) will begin a stretch of three games played on consecutive days, beginning with a Thursday morning start at 10:35 a.m. against the Philadelphia KiXX at Savvis Center where the Steamers are a perfect 12-0 on the season. They will then travel to Baltimore to take on the Blast in 1st Mariner Arena at 6:35 p.m. They will then finish up the weekend with a battle against the Milwaukee Wave at Savvis Center Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

Thursday's start time is due to the Steamers' School Day Game, where several area elementary and middle schools will be on hand to cheer on the Steamers. While the game is also open to the public, they are offering schools with a ticket that also includes a voucher for a free lunch at Savvis, which includes a hot dog, chips, soda and snack. So far in the season series versus Philadelphia, St. Louis is a perfect 5-0 against the KiXX. They are the only team in the MISL that has not defeated the Steamers this season.

Friday's match-up places the Steamers at third place Baltimore. The Steamers are 0-2 at 1st Mariner Arena and have succumbed on finals of 12-5 (Nov. 19th) and 12-7 (Jan. 28th). Coincidently, St. Louis has defeated the Blast in all three games at Savvis. Baltimore is still within reach of catching the second place Milwaukee Wave and securing home-field advantage in the first round of the MISL Championship Series. The Steamers have already cinched the number one seed and home filed advantage throughout the series.

The game against the Wave on Saturday will be a rematch of two close fought games from last weekend. On Saturday, Mar. 25th, St. Louis won at Savvis 8-7 in overtime with the equalizing goal in regulation coming off of the head of Mike Apple with 13.3 seconds remaining. Then the next day, the Steamers defeated the Wave at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena 7-6 with the winning goal coming from Apple in the fourth quarter. The win on Sunday clinched the Regular Season Championship for the Steamers. During Saturday's halftime, the Steamers will retire Daryl Doran's number seven to the rafters of Savvis during a ceremony and celebration of Doran's career as a professional indoor soccer player in the city of St. Louis.

After this weekend, the Steamers will have one game remaining on their schedule, it coming on Saturday, April 8th against the Chicago Storm. Start time for that will be 7:05 p.m.
