Stealth Fall in Thriller to Rush in Overtime

Vancouver, BC - The Vancouver Stealth (4-8) pushed the best team in the West Division to the limits but came up just short, falling 15-14 in overtime to the Edmonton Rush (8-4) at Rexall Place on Friday night.
The Stealth forced overtime when forward Corey Small fired home a shot that beat goaltender Aaron Bold five-hole with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter. Vancouver netminder Eric Penney made 39 saves on 54 shots and made some crucial saves in his first National Lacrosse League start and forward Logan Schuss scored a team-high six points in his debut.
Penney was officially named the starter hours before game-time as Tyler Richards was placed on the 10-day injured reserve list. Schuss, who was traded from Minnesota at the trade deadline on Tuesday looked impressive scoring on his first shot and added five assists while Small also finished with six points against his former team including a team-high four goals. Rhys Duch chipped in with five points (3g, 2a).
Edmonton was led by overtime hero Zack Greer, who scored four times and finished with six points while rookie forward Ben McIntosh had a game-high seven points for the Rush.
The Stealth played an excellent first half, holding Edmonton to a season-low three goals at halftime and led 7-3 at the break. Edmonton's offense came alive in the third quarter, outscoring Vancouver 7-3 as the game was tied at 10-10 going into the fourth quarter. The Rush scored the opening three goals of the frame before the Stealth showed their resiliency, answering with three straight markers of their own as Justin Salt, Small and Duch scored for Vancouver, tying the game at 13-13. The home team would get a goal with 53 seconds left from Robert Church to go up a goal late in the fourth quarter. Once again, Vancouver refused to give up as Small's 20th of the season with just seven seconds left in the quarter tied the game at 14-14 to force overtime. The Stealth's Tyler Hass missed a breakaway chance in the opening seconds of the extra frame and the Rush came back the other way as Greer beat Penney high, stick-side 45 seconds into overtime to earn the win and an important two points.
Despite the loss, Vancouver remains in third place, one-and-a-half games ahead of Calgary for the third and final playoff spot in the West with six games remaining in the regular season. The Stealth will look to even the score as they finish off the back-end of the home-and-home tomorrow night (Saturday) at the Langley Events Centre against the Rush. Game time is at 7:00PM PST. It will be the only visit the Rush make to the LEC during the regular season. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Stealth Coin Bank, sponsored by G&F Financial Group.
