Rochester Battles Toronto Tonight
April 3, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks will kick off a busy April with two games in two days this week against East Division opponents. Rochester will open the two-game stretch tonight with a trip to play the Toronto Rock at 7:00 p.m. at the Air Canada Centre.
"We have two big games this weekend and it starts Friday in Toronto," said Knighthawks defenseman Paul Dawson. "We are looking forward to a great game. It's always a battle when we play Toronto."
The contest features the top two teams in the East Division. The Knighthawks (7-4) enter the week two and half games behind the Rock (11-3). The contest will decide the winner of the season series, which is tied at one win apiece. Fans can watch the game on NLL LIVE in the U.S. and on TSN.ca in Canada.
Heading into Toronto, Rochester has won five of its last six games. Last Saturday against Edmonton, Rochester was led by three-point efforts from Dan Dawson (2+1) and Jordan Hall (0+3), and a two-point night from Cody Jamieson (1+1). With three assists last game, Hall hit the 300-assist plateau in his career. Jamieson, who leads the team with 57 points, is also closing in on a milestone. He stands just eight points away from hitting the 400-point mark. Dawson is 15 assists away from becoming only the sixth player in league history to reach the 700-assist plateau.
In preparation for the final weeks of the season, Rochester made a deal Tuesday at the trade deadline to acquire forward Joe Resetarits and a third-round pick in the 2016 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft from the Buffalo Bandits. In return, Rochester sent defenseman Jamie Batson and its second-round selections in 2016 and 2017 to Buffalo. Resetarits has scored seven goals and added 14 assists in 10 games this season. Last year, he notched career bests in goals, assists, points and loose balls.
"Joe is a really hard worker who doesn't need the ball in his stick that often," said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. "He gets guys open and gets some good opportunities. We're excited to have him in the lineup."
The Knighthawks also bolstered their defense with the signing of Colin Boucher to a two-year deal. The 27-year-old defenseman played in four games with the Vancouver Stealth this season and collected two assists and three loose balls. In the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) circuit, he was a three-time All-Star Team selection and a two-time winner of the league's Defensive Player of the Year award. The past two summers, he has won the Mann Cup with the Six Nations Chiefs.
On Saturday, April 4th, the Knighthawks are back home to host the Minnesota Swarm at 7:30 p.m. at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena. The Swarm (4-8) enter the game in fourth place in the East Division. Similar to Rochester, Minnesota will play Friday night as it hosts the New England Black Wolves at 8:30 p.m. The game Saturday is the second of three meetings between the East Division foes. Rochester, who is playing its second straight weekend at The Blue Cross Arena, hopes to use the home floor to its advantage.
"We always pride ourselves on playing in a tough barn and being a tough team to play against at home," said Paul Dawson. "We are looking forward to having a good game at home this weekend."
Rochester will continue its six-game April with a showdown against Colorado Mammoth at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11th. Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. for the Knighthawks' annual Kids Day. The event, presented by Zweigle's, will feature inflatables, laser tag, a magician, face painters and air brush tattoos. Admission to the pregame event and the game are free for kids 12 and under. Fans must have a ticket to enter. Fans can purchase tickets at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com and through the Knighthawks Office by calling (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
