Staten Island Yankees News Release

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-The Staten Island Yankees fell to the Connecticut Tigers in the rubber game of a three-game set 5-4 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon.

The Yankees (12-11) fell behind early in what was a slugfest during the first three innings. Connecticut scored two runs in the first inning and three in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead through three innings.

Staten Island's offense all came from the bat of Ezequiel Duran who hit a solo home run in the first and a two-run home run in the third to keep the Yankees in it. The run total between the two teams in three innings matched the total amount of combined runs scored in the first two games of the series combined.

After the third, the bullpens shut the offenses down for the almost the rest of the game. Keegan Curtis and Barrett Loseke pitched very well to keep the Yankees in it and for Connecticut Wes Noble, Zac Shepherd and Andrew Magno would finish it off.

Connecticut (11-13) did give up a late run on a home run by Matt Pita, his first of the season, in his debut with the Baby Bombers.

The Yankees would get the tying and winning runs on base in the ninth, but could not match the great heroics of last night's comeback.

Staten Island now hits the road for a six-game road trip before returning to Richmond County Bank Ballpark on July 17 to begin a six-game homestand.
