-SPIKES FINISH 2010 SEASON TONIGHT: The State College Spikes complete this season with the last game of a three-game set against the Williamsport Crosscutters tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Williamsport is a half-game in front of Jamestown for the New York-Penn League Wild Card, meaning the Spikes could put a damper on their playoff hopes.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes fought back to tie the game late, but Carlos Alonso's walk-off home run on the first pitch of the ninth inning gave the Williamsport Crosscutters a 2-1 win on Saturday night at Historic Bowman Field. Kevin Mort scored the tying run in the ninth inning after singling to lead off the frame.
-CAIN MAKES LAST 2010 START: Left-hander Colton Cain gets the ball for State College in the season finale tonight. Cain makes his 11th appearance and ninth start of the year since joining the team in mid-July. The Waxahachie, TX native looks to rebound from a three-inning, six-run effort in his last outing at Batavia five nights ago.
-BUCHANAN LOOKS TO PUT 'CUTTERS IN POSTSEASON: Right-hander David Buchanan makes the start for Williamsport tonight, with a win giving the Crosscutters the New York-Penn League's Wild Card berth. Buchanan is 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA away from home this year, and has allowed eight earned runs over his last 9.1 innings on the mound.
-SPIKES AWARDS ANNOUNCED TONIGHT: The State College Spikes will announce their Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and the recipient of the Spikes Leadership Award prior to tonight's game. The Leadership Award is presented by the Spikes Booster Club.
-SPIKES WELCOME SINGH TO CLUB: Rinku Singh, one of the two pitchers signed from India by the Pirates in 2008, joined the Spikes on Monday. Singh, a left-hander out of Lucknow, India, went 2-0 with a save and a 2.61 ERA for the GCL Pirates in 2010.
