-SPIKES FINISH 2011 HOME SCHEDULE TONIGHT: The State College Spikes play their 2011 home finale tonight as they finish two-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Tonight's game alsoconcludes a stretch of four straight meetings between the two teams. The Spikes are 26-33 all-time against the Muckdogs, with a 14-16 mark at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
-LAST GAME: Alex Dickerson launched his third home run of the year and Taylor Lewis tied the State College Spikes' single-season triples record, but it took Junior Sosa's RBI single in the ninth inning to give the Spikes a 4-3 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College starter Mike Jefferson went five innings, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one over that time. Jefferson also forced four popouts to Dickerson over the course of his outing.
-KINGHAM STARTS FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Nick Kingham gets the ball to start for State College tonight. The right-hander from Las Vegas, NV holds the fourth-best ERA in the New York-Penn League at 2.32. Kingham has also gone at least five innings while allowing one or no runs in each of his last nine starts.
-SHERRIFF ON MOUND FOR BATAVIA: Right-hander Ryan Sherriff is slated to start for the Muckdogs tonight. Sherriff, the Cardinals' 28th-round draft choice this year, has made two appearances in the NYPL after starting his pro career with Rookie-level Johnson City. Sherriff took the first loss of his NYPL career last time out against Auburn.
-BELL LEADS NEW FACES FOR SPIKES: 2011 second-round draft pick Josh Bell and seven players from the Gulf Coast League Pirates have joined the Spikes. Pitchers Cesar Lopez and Diomedes Mateo, plus position players Alen Hanson and Gregory Polanco, are active.
