NORWICH, CT - Tommy Collier improved to 4-1 in his seven starts with the Connecticut Tigers and led the Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday night at Dodd Stadium.
Collier gave up just a run on five hits in a season-high seven innings of work, while he didn't walk anyone and struck out four.
The Tigers got the offense started early as the first three men that came up in the first inning all scored. Chad Wright walked against Renegades starter and All-Star Parker Markel, Eugenio Suarez slapped a base hit and Tyler Collins drew a walk to load the bases. With the sacks packed, Dean Green walked to score Connecticut's first run. Two batters later Jeff Holm hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Renegades cut the lead to 3-1 in the third inning. After a single from Cesar Guillen and double from Brian Bryles put runners at the corners, a Juniel Querecuto groundout scored Hudson Valley's only run of the game.
Connecticut added a run in the bottom of the third on a Matt Perry RBI single and finished the scoring with an RBI double off the bat of Holm.
Holm finished the night 2-for-3 with three RBI's, while Chad Wright reached base all four times he came up with a single and three walks.
Vermont beat Staten Island, so the Tigers lead in the Stedler Division remains at a half game over the Lake Monsters with only three days left in the regular season. Vermont will host Tri-City for a three-game set beginning tomorrow night.
The Tigers will play four games over the final three days against the Lowell Spinners, starting tomorrow evening with a doubleheader. There will be two seven-inning games player with the first pitch of game one set for 5:05 PM at Dodd Stadium.
