-SPIKES ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The State College Spikes begin their first road trip of 2009 with a 7:05 matchup against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field in Niles, OH. The Scrappers began the season with three-game sweep of the Jamestown Jammers at home.

-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes rallied for three runs in the seventh inning, but ultimately fell by one run, 4-3, to the Williamsport Crosscutters. ‘Cutters first baseman Stephen Batts gave Williamsport the lead with a three-run first inning home run off of Spikes starter Nelson Pereira. State College then fell into a 4-0 hole before stringing together three runs without a ball leaving the infield. Pereira took the loss for the Spikes, while Spencer Arroyo got the win for Williamsport

-McPHERSON LEAPS INTO ACTION: Right-hander Kyle McPherson gets the ball tonight for State College. McPherson was received by the Spikes from Single-A West Virginia, where he went 5-2 with a 4.94 ERA in 13 appearances, including eight starts. McPherson returns from the 2008 Spikes, for whom he went 1-3 with a save last season. The Creola, AL native struck out 41 and walked only five batters in 55 2/3 innings.

-SCRAPPERS SEND GUILMET TO HILL: Mahoning Valley has named right-hander Preston Guilmet to start the season's fourth game. Guilmet, the ninth-round draft pick of the Indians in 2009 out of the University of Arizona, is making his first professional appearance. Guilmet is number two on the Wildcats' all-time career strikeout list.

-SANCHEZ TAKES FAREWELL TOUR: This series is the last that Tony Sanchez will play with the Spikes. After attending the banquet for the 2009 Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award (an award for which he is a finalist), Sanchez is headed to Single-A West Virginia to continue his professional development.

-IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING: Spikes outfielder David Rubinstein has extended his on-base streak to 23 consecutive games, after bringing a 21-game streak into the year.
