Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The starting pitching for the Asheville Tourists was dominant all series against the Lexington Legends and Friday night featured Eris Filpo turning heads in his home debut. Asheville's righty spun seven innings and led the Tourists to a 7-2 win over the Legends.

Filpo seemed to get stronger as the game progressed. He threw six shutout innings before allowed a lead-off Home Run in the seventh. Filpo retired the next three hitters to finish his night with only one run allowed on four hits.

The Tourists offense was equally impressive. Asheville pounded out seven runs on 13 hits, including three doubles from Terrin Vavra. They opened the scoring on a second inning RBI single by John Cresto who was playing in his first game since June 25.

Asheville added two more in the third on back-to-back RBI hits by Niko Decolati and Vavra. Will Golsan made it 4-0 with a two-out RBI triple in the fourth. Golsan finished the game a Home Run shy of the cycle.

After the Legends made it 4-1 in the top of the seventh, the Tourists responded with three runs in the bottom half. Vavra plated a pair with a double to deep left field and Grant Lavigne recorded an RBI single as well. Derrik Watson finished off the game out of Asheville's bullpen by pitching the eighth and ninth innings.

The Tourists starting pitching combined to toss 16 innings over the three games in this series and surrendered a total of only one run. Over the course of Asheville's current four-game winning streak the starting pitching has surrendered only two runs in 23.2 innings.

The Tourists welcome in the Lakewood BlueClaws on Saturday night to open up a four-game series. Asheville is 0-4 against Lakewood this season but all four games were played in the first half. The T's are among the league's best at home in the second half, sporting a 14-6 record.
