Omaha Lancers News Release
Three goals from Kyle Follmer, including the game-winner at 4:12 of overtime, gave the Lincoln Stars a wild 7-6 victory over the Lancers at the Ice Box in Lincoln on Saturday, March 24th. Follmer's three-goal hat-trick countered the two-goal efforts of Matt Thurber and Mark Olver for the Lancers, especially Olver, whose goal from Travis Novak with 52 seconds left in the third period tied the game and sent it into overtime.
Olver's first goal came just 22 seconds into the contest, assisted by Nick Petrecki. Thurber followed with an unassisted goal on a 2-on-1 break at 16:14 of the period for a 2-0 lead. However, Follmer scored his first goal with just 41 seconds left in the period to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Lancers.
Carter Camper's power play goal tied the game at 2-2 in the second period and set up a wild third period where each team scored four goals each. Brett Bruneteau, Thurber, Ben Arnt, and Olver scored for the Lancers in the third period, while Chris Stansik, Follmer, Jared Brown, and Brandon Bollig answered for Lincoln.
Follmer scored the game-winner with the Lancers a man-short after a penalty, when his back-hander in front of the crease found the net with 48 seconds remaining in overtime.
The Lancers were 0-for-6 on the power play in the contest, while the Stars scored five times in nine power play opportunities and added a shorthanded goal. Lincoln out shot the Lancers by a 52-31 margin
Palmisano finished with 45 saves and seven goals allowed to see his record fall to 18-9-5, while on the other side, Bryce Christianson stopped 25 shots and allowed six goals in improving his record to 14-3-0.
The Lancers play host to Cedar Rapids Tuesday night at the Mid America Center, a game played to make up a snow-out date from early March. Game time is 7:00 PM and broadcast coverage on Magic 1490, KOMJ will be at 6:50 PM.
