Minnesota United FC News Release
Blaine, Minn. (June 18, 2010) - The NSC Minnesota Stars announced that Sunday's exhibition game against the MLS Chicago Fire has been cancelled due to the short promotional period that resulted in insufficient pre-game ticket sales.
The game was scheduled for 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 20 at the NSC Stadium.
The two teams will reschedule the game at some point in the future, with a date during the Schwan's USA CUP youth soccer tournament in July 2011 as a possibility. "We apologize to our fans that we needed to make this late decision," said Stars General Manager Kris Bjerkness. "We had a very short lead time to promote this game.
"We still believe there is sufficient interest here to support a professional soccer game of this magnitude, and we are definitely interested in working with the Fire to reschedule this game at some time in the future."
Full refunds will be issued to all who purchased tickets. Ticket buyer holding tickets can contact Stars Ticket Director Rich Zellmer at 763.792.7346, or rzellmer@nscminnesota.org.
The NSC Minnesota Stars won't be idle this weekend. The Stars will face off against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, June 19 at 7:00p.m at the NSC Stadium in Blaine. Saturday's game will be a rematch of a game in Portland Thursday, in which the Stars took a 1-0 road victory.
