Knoxville Smokies News Release
Huntsville, Ala.- The Huntsville Stars (56-41, 16-13) recorded their league high 12th shutout and third straight in a 6-0 win over Tennessee (20-10, 55-45) in a battle of division leaders Tuesday night at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars blanked West Tenn in a double-header sweep Sunday and have now thrown 27 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
Nick Stocks (8-5) saw his four game win streak come to an end on a night when the Smokies left 7 men stranded.
The Stars opened the scoring with a second inning sacrifice fly by Darryl Clark, scoring Corey Hart. Hart doubled and scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice by Noochie Varner. The Stars broke it open in the fifth when Kade Johnson led off with a solo home run, and Hart produced a two run single, chasing Stocks.
Pedro Liriano (6-10) snapped a personal three game losing streak with six shutout innings while Matt Childers scattered two hits over the final three innings for his 8th save.
Tennessee will open a four game series at Huntsville Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. Rhett Parrott (7-9, 3.36) will start for the Smokies against Ben Hendrickson (4-2, 2.54).
