GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Suns dropped the opening game of an eight-game road trip, 4-2, to the Greenville Braves in front of 1,694 fans Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

In the third inning, Braves starter Daniel Curtis singled in Bryce Terveen who led off the inning with the double, giving Greenville a 1-0 lead. Curtis (2-1) earned the victory, allowing two unearned runs over six innings.

Curtis gave up those runs in the top of the fourth inning when Derek Michaelis doubled and Nick Alvarez reached on a two-base error by shortstop Pete Orr with nobody out. Mike Collins singled home Michaelis and Tony Socarras hit a sacrifice fly to score Alvarez, giving the Suns a 2-1 advantage.

But in the bottom of the inning, it was a hard-hit chopper to Michaelis which yielded the Braves' tying and leading runs. Terveen's chop deflected off the first baseman's glove and into right field scoring Ryan Langerhans and Richard Lewis. The Braves (46-52 overall, 10-20 second half) scored on a bases loaded double play in the seven inning, capping the scoring.

Suns starter Will McCrotty (1-3) earned the loss after pitching into the seventh for the first time in his career. He loaded the bases before reliever Greg Bauer induced the aforementioned double play and got a strike out to end the threat.

Billy Sylvester pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 10th save.

Collins and Shane Victorino had two hits apiece to lead the Suns (17-14, 48-52) who grounded into two inning-ending double plays.
