Stars And Bears To Meet In Hershey

Texas currently sits sixth overall in the Calder Cup Playoffs on the power play at 21.4%. During the regular season, the Stars ranked ninth overall in the AHL at 19.1%. The Texas power play has been much better on the road than at home in the playoffs. The Stars are converting 24.2% of their road chances compared to 18.9% of their home chances. Texas only converted 17.2% on the road and 21.1% at home in the regular season.

Texas finished with the second best penalty kill in the AHL in the regular season, stopping 86.4% of their opposition's chances. The Stars were third best in the league at home (87.4%) and fifth best on the road (85.4%) in the regular season. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Texas is ranked 14th out of 16 playoffs teams, killing off 74.0% of their opponents' power plays. The Stars are 11th at home (73.7%) and 13th on the road (74.3) on the penalty kill in the postseason.

Hershey's power play finished first in the AHL regular season, connecting 20.7% of the time. The Bears had the second-best home power play in the regular season at 23.3% and the 11th best road power play at 17.3%. In the postseason, Hershey is seventh best on the power play at 20.8%, going 15 for 72. The Bears road power play is third best in the league, as they have scored eight goals on 28 chances for 28.6%. At home, the Bears have a 15.9 scoring percentage during the playoffs, compared to the regular season's 23.3%.

Hershey finished with the best penalty kill in the AHL's 80-game regular season, stopping 87.4%. The Bears stopped 90.5% of their opponents at the Giant Center, ranking first in the league at home. The Bears were eighth overall on the road at 84.4%. In this year's Calder Cup Playoffs, Hershey is sixth at home (86.7%) and 11th on the road (77.1%). Overall, Hershey is seventh on the penalty kill in the postseason, stopping 81.5%.

Offense and Defense...

The Stars have averaged 3.11 goals per game in the postseason, placing them seventh overall in goals for. Hershey is ranked first in the league, scoring an average of 3.67 goals per game. Texas is fifth in the league for goals against, allowing 2.61 per game. Hershey is ranked fourth in the AHL, having allowed an average of 2.60 goals per game.

In the regular season, Hershey was ranked first in goals for, averaging 4.28 per game. Texas was 12th, notching an average of 2.98 goals a game. Defensively in the regular season, the teams tied for second overall in the AHL with a 2.48 goals against average.

- Texas is 6-4 on the road in the playoffs, while Hershey is 8-0 at home.

- Hershey winger Alexandre Girouox has 27 goals in his last 37 Calder Cup Playoff games and he has 110 goals in his last 138 AHL regular season games. On January 18, 2009, Giroux broke Brett Hull's American Hockey League record for consecutive games scoring a goal, lighting the lamp in 15 straight games.

- Texas Head Coach Glen Gulutzan is 48-37 in his professional coaching career in the playoffs. Gulutzan has guided his team to the Finals in two of his last three seasons (Texas in 2010 (AHL) and Las Vegas in 2008 (ECHL)). Hershey's Mark French is 15-11 in his pro coaching career in the playoffs. Prior to this run with Hershey, French was 3-8 in the postseason.
