April 18, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Apprentice Hockey League finalists and the Iowa Stars raised over $35,000 for Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) and CFI's Family Violence Center.

The Stars and CFI teamed up for the final Apprentice Hockey League challenge in which each finalist, Jerah Gallinger and Tony Dressen, were tasked to give back to the community which so graciously helped them in the first two rounds. Proceeds from funds raised by the AHL contestants went to support victims at Children & Families of Iowa's Family Violence Center.

The Apprentice Hockey League contestants raised money through raffles, sales, and online auctions. Each contestant had roughly a month to garner the funds and present their final numbers at the Iowa Stars game on April 4th. Jerah Gallinger was named the winner of the AHL challenge on Tuesday, April 8th at the Stars final home game of the season and Coach Tana Goertz was on hand to present him with his prize package.

The Apprentice Hockey League contestants and the Iowa Stars helped to raise funds for and awareness about domestic violence by getting the word out about healthy family relationships. The Stars and players are helping spread the message that hurting your family and those you care about doesn't get you ahead in life, and they are encouraging others to "be a role model - speak out and stick up for victims of domestic violence."
