Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Sean Starke. Starke's rights were acquired from the Adirondack Frostbite in the UHL Dispersal Draft.
The Montreal native spent the 2005-06 season with the Flint Generals and Roanoke Valley Vipers. In 64 total UHL games, Starke netted 23 goals with 23 assists for 46 points. After finishing the season with the Vipers, Starke was selected by the Adirondack Frostbite in the June 6th Dispersal Draft. When Adirondack folded, the Mallards added Starke's rights in the Dispersal Draft of June 15th.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound forward made his North American pro debut as a member of the UHL's Kalamazoo Wings in 2004-05. He recorded 39 points (19 goals and 20 assists) in 68 games with the Wings.
Before coming to the UHL, Starke played a season in Germany with Neuss. During his lone European campaign, he recorded 40 points (19 goals and 21 assists) in 34 games. Starke played four years at Bowdoin College (NCAA Division III) before leaving for Europe. During his collegiate career, he appeared in 100 games and scored 101 points (45 goals and 56 assists).
"I've been impressed by Sean's play the last two years in the UHL," said Mallards President Tim Taylor. "He has averaged over 20 goals per season as a professional, so he certainly brings the offensive dimension we are looking for."
"Sean is a nice acquisition for us," said Mallards General Manager and Head Coach Brian Curran. "He's put up some impressive numbers over the last two years especially last season. After speaking with him, he seems to be enthusiastic and ready to prove himself. Hopefully, I can prepare him for the next step in his career."
Starke is the 13th Mallard signed for 2006-07. He joins Chad Woollard, Glenn Detulleo, Patrick Nadeau, Jesse Rycroft and Drew Otten as forwards under contract for the new season. Jami Yoder, Andrei Lupandin, Steve MacIntyre, Marcus Reszka and Bryce Charpentier have been signed to patrol the Mallards blueline. Returnee Jason Tapp and rookie Scott Gray will tend net for the Mallards in the coming season.
