Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the United Hockey League and 2005-06 Central Division, Tarry Cup and Colonial Cup Champions, announce the signing of defenseman Mike Roemensky and goaltender Ryan Nie; per team policy the terms of the contact will be undisclosed.

Former University of Michigan standout Mike Roemensky joins the K-Wings for his third season as a professional. Before coming to Kalamazoo, Roemensky played in the ECHL with the Colombia Inferno and most recently with the Motor City Mechanics in the UHL.

"Mike has proven himself at the collegiate level and has shown he can adapt his play to the pro game," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "He's a gritty player that can battle in the corners for pucks, as well as stand his man up at the blueline."

During his collegiate career, Roemensky was one of the Wolverines top blueliners. As a member of the University of Michigan, the native of Waterford, Michigan would get the assignment of stopping the opposing team's top players.

Also joining the K-Wings this season will be goaltender Ryan Nie. While the 2006-07 campaign will be Nie's rookie year, the netminder brings with him an impressive resume.

For the past four seasons, Nie has been one of the top goaltenders in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 130 games between the pipes, the native of Nanticoke, Ontario had a goals against average of 2.93 and a save percentage of .911.

"We believe he will turn some heads with his play," said Pickard. "With his resume he has the ability to be our number one goaltender this year."

The addition of Roemensky and Nie gives the K-Wings eleven players signed for their defense of the Colonial Cup, which will begin on Friday, October 13th with a road game against the Elmira Jackals. Signed for next season are forwards Nick Bootland, Jay Dardis, Kory Karlander, Olof Mars and Tyler Willis. Also inked for the upcoming season are defensemen Adam Elzinga, Casey Handrahan, Joe Markusen and Nick Toneys.

Kalamazoo will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 21st versus the Flint Generals. The K-Wings will raise their championship banners and unveil their Colonial Cup Championship Rings during a ceremony prior to face-off.
