Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va., October 28, 2003 – Curtis Staples, former University of Virginia Cavalier, was named today as an allocated player for the Roanoke Dazzle by the National Basketball Development League.

Chris Alpert, Director of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBDL, named Staples as the second allocated player to the Dazzle for the league's third season. Allocated players have regional ties to their teams, and receive berths in the training camps of the teams in the NBA's minor league.

Each team is allocated two players, and at least one allocated player is guaranteed a spot on an NBDL team's final, 10-player roster. Adam Hall, another University of Virginia graduate, was the first player allocated to the Dazzle this season.

"It is exciting to have a young man that has ties not only to the state of Virginia, but also to the City of Roanoke," Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison said. "One thing that we need to have on this year's team is the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter. And Curtis certainty fits the bill. " Staples, a 6-foot-3 graduate of local Patrick Henry High School, is known for his excellent shooting ability. He was a four-year starter at the University of Virginia, where he left the school as the all-time NCAA leader in 3-point field goals with 413, averaged 18.1 ppg and 4.4 rpg as a senior. He won the 3-point shooting contest held in conjunction with the 1998 NCAA Final Four, making 18 consecutive treys at one point to defeat Notre Dame's Pat Garrity in the final round.

Staples played with Scafati in Italy where he averaged 15.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists over 20 games in 2002. He finished the 2003 season with the Huntsville Flight of the NBDL.

The Dazzle will open its third NBDL season at the Roanoke Civic Center on Sunday, November 30, with a 4 p.m. tipoff against the Fayetteville Patriots.
