Stange and Flores Sign with Bridgeport
(Bridgeport, Conn. - Apr. 29, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of pitcher Dan Stange and catcher Angel Flores. Stange and Flores will both make their Bluefish debuts.
"We are glad to bring both these players on board," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "Dan will add a strong arm to our bullpen, while Angel is a veteran backstop with experience in this league."
Stange makes his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish during his eighth season of professional baseball. The former Major Leaguer joins the 'Fish after appearing in three games for Triple-A Reno of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization earlier this year. The 26-year-old was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the seventh round of the 2006 amateur draft and spent five seasons in the minors before getting the call to 'The Show' in 2010 with Arizona. He appeared in four games for the big club to finish out that campaign. Over the course of 208 career minor league appearances, the righthander owns a 23-18 record with a 4.36 ERA, 57 saves, and 246 strikeouts in 262 innings of work.
Flores joins the Bluefish for his second season in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball. Last year, the backstop made his Atlantic League debut with the Lancaster Barnstormers, appearing in 40 games and recording a .311 batting average. Before joining the Barnstormers, the 25-year-old has spent the majority of his professional career as a member of the Detroit Tigers organization, reaching as high as the Triple-A level (Toledo) in 2010. He has appeared in 252 career minor league games and owns a .230 batting average with 28 extra-base hits, 72 RBI, and 70 runs scored.
The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2012 group outings and individual tickets are available by calling 203-345-4800.
