Ducks Take Opening Series with Ninth Inning Rally

Bridgewater, NJ- The Long Island Ducks rallied in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Somerset Patriots 5-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

A throwing error on a potential double play by Freddy Sandoval allowed the go ahead run to score in the ninth and put the Ducks on top for the 5-4 final.

The Patriots took an early lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Sandoval and Jesse Hoorelbeke for a 3-0 advantage.

After four scoreless innings, the Ducks evened the score at three in the top of the sixth inning, capped off with a two-run homerun by Bryant Nelson (1).

Hoorelbeke (2) put the Patriots back on top in the bottom of the eighth after he drove a solo homerun over the center field wall for a 4-3 lead.

Jason Monti (1-0) got the win after allowing a run in two innings of work. Josh Rupe (0-1) suffered the loss for the Patriots after allowing an earned run to even the score in the top half of the ninth. Jonathan Meloan earned his second save with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, May 4th when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
