Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Tuesday that winger Parker Stanfield has been called up by the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) and will report immediately. There is no timetable for his return.
Stanfield, 23, appeared in all 16 games for the Rivermen this season and led all forwards on the team with 11 assists. The 6'2, 195-pound right wing also notched three goals and was second on the team in both points (14) and penalty minutes (39). Before his promotion, Stanfield had earned points in six of his last seven games with Peoria. In addition, his 73 shots were second-most in the SPHL.
A native of Orange County, California, Stanfield is currently in his third season of professional hockey. Last year, he played 33 games for ECHL Bakersfield, where he recorded six goals and seven assists following an eight-game endeavor with Poprad HK SKP in Slovakia's top professional league.
Stanfield began his pro career in 2011-12, when he played 47 games for Bakersfield and registered 30 points (13g, 17a) and 51 penalty minutes. He also played 272 games at the junior level from 2007-2011, where he spent time with the Prince George Cougars and Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League (WHL) before turning pro.
Stanfield joins center Garrett Vermeersch and winger Tyler Fernandez on the list of Rivermen players who have been called up this season. Vermeersch was promoted to ECHL Greenville on Monday, while Fernandez graduated to ECHL Wheeling on Nov. 26.
Following a weekend off, the Rivermen will return to action on Friday, Dec. 20 with a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against the Bloomington Thunder at Carver Arena. Peoria will wear custom "Central Illinois STRONG" jerseys to support tornado relief efforts in central Illinois, which will be auctioned off live after the game. All proceeds will benefit the local American Red Cross. The game can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or online at www.cd1079.net .
