Standout Receiver Glenn Johnson Back With Extreme

April 29, 2008 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Bloomington Extreme News Release

Glenn Johnson, one of the most prolific wide receivers in Bloomington Extreme indoor football history, is back with the team and will likely be in action Saturday when the Extreme meets RiverCity at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in a 7:05 p.m. United Indoor Football contest.

Johnson, who began the season with the Fort Wayne Freedom of the Continental Indoor Football League, signed a contract to return to the Extreme over the weekend, coach Kenton Carr announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Johnson has played the last two seasons with the Extreme and ranks second in franchise history in receptions (118), receiving yards (1,481) and receiving touchdowns (25).

He also ranks third in franchise scoring with 162 points in 22 games. Kicker Peter Christofilakos is the leader with 324 points in 38 games, while wide receiver James Walton has 222 points in 24 games.

Johnson was the team's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yardage and touchdown receptions until this season when Walton passed his marks. Walton has 120 receptions with 1,647 yards and 36 touchdowns.

The speedy Johnson ranked second in the UIF last season in receptions per game (5.43) and receiving yards per game (66.7). He had 76 receptions for 934 yards and 14 touchdowns in 14 games with the Extreme a year ago.

Johnson also holds the team record for most receptions in a game (11) and most receiving yards in a contest (138).

"We all know the caliber of receiver Glenn is and the type of impact he can bring to a game," said Carr. "Not only does he provide leadership on the field, but in the locker room as well. He is definitely a team guy.

"His experience and talent gives us another weapon in our receiving arsenal, which we feel is already pretty good."

The Extreme ranks second in the league in passing yardage at 193.8 and scoring with a 41.4 average for eight games.

Carr said Johnson, who will wear his customary No. 8 jersey, will likely see action Saturday when the Extreme tries to widen its lead in the Eastern Conference race. Bloomington has a 4-4 overall record, with all four victories coming against Eastern Conference teams.

The Extreme leads RiverCity and Sioux City by one-and-a-half games in the standings.

In addition to Johnson's signing, Carr also announced Tuesday that linemen Anthony Bullock and Demetrius Harmon have been added to the 30-man roster.

Bullock is a 6-6, 340-pound offensive lineman, who played for the Evansville Bluecats last season in the UIF following his college career at Indiana State. He will wear No. 53.

Harmon is a 6-3, 260-pound defensive lineman, who played at Missouri State University last year. He will wear No. 43.
