Extreme Looks To Maintain Conference Lead
April 29, 2008 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Bloomington Extreme News Release
The Bloomington Extreme will take the field as United Indoor Football Eastern Conference leaders for the first time this season when it hosts RiverCity Saturday at 7:05 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Bloomington (4-4) moved into first place last weekend after defeating Sioux City 53-49 and benefiting from a RiverCity (3-4) loss to Sioux Falls.
Saturday's game will be a battle for first place in the Eastern Conference.
RiverCity won its first three games of the season but failed to record a victory since. A loss to Bloomington would mark a franchise-worst five-game losing skid.
While the Rage has struggled of late, The Extreme enters play undefeated in four divisional games and has won three of its last four contests.
Bloomington is riding the hot hand of quarterback Dusty Burk who returned last week from an injury. Burk has completed 26-of-38 passes for 349 yards and nine touchdowns in his last two games, despite missing the entire second half in a week 6 win at RiverCity. In that game, Burk torched the Rage defense for four touchdowns in the first 23 minutes. His 1348 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes rank him second in UIF.
Although Burk had an easy time picking apart the Rage defense in week 6, it still remains the top defense in the league.
RiverCity enters plays allowing a league-low 31.9 points-per-game. The defensive unit has held its opponents to only 870 passing yards and 30 total touchdowns.
Bloomington, on the other hand, has allowed 1306 pass yards and 46 total touchdowns. The Extreme will look to speed-up the pace of the game and challenge the Rage to a shoot-out. Bloomington commands the second best scoring and passing offense in UIF and holds a distinct advantage over RiverCity's league-worst passing offense.
Rage quarterback Anthony Fisher has passed for only 679 yards and nine touchdowns in six games, while being intercepted eight times.
However, he had one of his best games of the season when he completed 22-of-29 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns against the Extreme.
Bloomington and RiverCity have met three times in UIF history, with the Extreme capturing the past two contests.
