Sporting Kansas City News Release
KANSAS CITY, MO (Wednesday, December 21, 2005) - The Kansas City Wizards kicked off their 2006 season ticket campaign with a very successful event at Dave & Buster's Restaurant and Entertainment Complex last night. Several hundred fans were on hand to renew their season tickets and take part in an open "Town Hall" Q&A session with General Manager Curt Johnson and Head Coach Bob Gansler.
"I want to thank our fans for a tremendous turnout and for their passionate and informed questions," said Johnson. "2006 is an important one for the future of soccer in Kansas City and the Wizards and I call on all past season ticket holders to renew and refer a friend."
The newly opened Dave & Buster's, located at the Village West Complex at I-70 & I-435 in Wyandotte County, provided an incredible atmosphere for fans to come together and kickoff the ticket drive for the 2006 season. The event took place one week after Wizards Founder Lamar Hunt announced that the Wizards would remain in Kansas City for the 2006 season. While the sale process of the team continues, a representative from Major League Soccer will begin leading the process of collecting Request for Proposals (RFP's) from various communities in the Kansas City area.
All fans that renewed season tickets or purchased new packages received a limited edition poster commemorating the career of Wizards midfielder Preki. The MLS All-Time "Best XI" honoree was on hand to personally autograph the posters.
The Wizards have begun a referral program for current season ticket holders, encouraging fans to refer a friend to buy season tickets. Referrals can be made by email to rhaas@kcwizards.com. Current season ticket holders with referrals that generate at least two full season tickets will receive a MLS Season 10 coffee table book, compliments of the Wizards (a $40 value).
A limited number of signed Preki posters remain and fans can still receive
one by placing a $100 deposit down for 2006 season tickets. Fans can renew
their season tickets or sign up for new season tickets by calling the
Wizards office at 816-920-9300 or online at www.kcwizards.com
The Wizards will open the 2006 regular season at home on Saturday, April 1s.
They will host Eastern Conference rivals the Columbus Crew at Arrowhead
Stadium.
