CFL Calgary Stampeders

Stamps Host Alouettes for Friday Night Football

August 18, 2021 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Stampeders will be looking to enter the win column in their one and only Friday night home game this season when the Montreal Alouettes visit in Week 3 action.

Bo Levi Mitchell will be out with an injury, so either Canadian quarterback Michael O'Connor or UC-Davis alumnus Jake Maier will get his first professional start.

Following a pair of disappointing defeats by a total of nine points, the Red and White will be going up against a Montreal team with a 1-0 record thanks to a 30-13 victory in Week 2 at Edmonton. The Als did not appear on the Week 1 schedule.

Last Thursday against the Lions, Rene Paredes of the Stampeders made all three field goals - including a 48-yarder - and Malik Henry had a 42-yard punt return in his first CFL game. Royce Metchie forced a BC fumble recovered by Jonathan Moxey as the Calgary defence limited the Lions to a single touchdown.

As for Montreal, the offence rushed the ball 29 times, the most attempts by any team so far this season. Vernon Adams Jr. completed passes of at least 40 yards to Jake Weineke and B.J. Cunningham.

Following Friday, three of the Stampeders' next four games are on the road and seven of their next eight are against West opponents.

The Stamps have played Montreal 80 times in franchise history, going 41-38-1.

Great Neighbour Game

Hosted by the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen, the Great Neighbourhood Game will feature halftime performances from Siksika Nation traditional dancers, lion dancers from Jing Wo Cultural Association and dancers from the Brazilian Community Association of Alberta. Alumni of the Calgary Stampeders Outriders will also be present, alongside Hitmen mascot Farley the Fox, while the Federation of Calgary Communities will help celebrate all of the neighbourhoods in our city.

Donations collected by Alberta Council of Women's Shelters

Fans are asked to bring diapers or formula to drop off at any of the McMahon Stadium entrances. The Alberta Council of Women's Shelters will then be delivering the supplies to individuals in need.
