Calgary Stampeders News Release
For the second year in a row, the Calgary Stampeders are travelling to Vancouver to face the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League's Western Semi-Final.
The Stamps are looking to avenge a 30-16 loss to the Leos in last year's semi-final and earn a trip to Winnipeg to face the Blue Bombers in the Western Final on Nov. 11.
Calgary and BC met three times during the 2023 regular season, with the Lions winning the first two contests - 25-15 in the season-opener at McMahon Stadium and 37-9 in Vancouver in Week 10 - and the Stamps claiming a critical 41-16 victory two weeks ago at BC Place. That result played a large part in allowing the Red and White to clinch an 18th consecutive participation in the CFL playoffs.
This is the 36th time in franchise history the Stampeders have played in the division semifinal round. They have an 18-17 record in this round including 6-1 against BC.
Saturday's contest features two of the four CFL quarterbacks who cracked the 4,000-yard milestone in 2023. Calgary's Jake Maier threw for 4,244 yards while BC's Vernon Adams Jr. accumulated 4,252 yards through the air.
The game also boasts three 1,000-yard receivers - Reggie Begelton (1,119 yards) of the Stamps and Keon Hatcher (1,226) and Alexander Hollins (1,173) of the Lions.
