Stampeders Unveil Aternate Uniform
August 29, 2022 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders on Monday morning unveiled a black alternate uniform that will make its on-field debut at next week's Labour Day Classic. The annual Canadian Football League contest against Calgary's rivals from Edmonton takes place on Monday, Sept. 5 with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at McMahon Stadium.
This is the sixth version of the Stampeders' black jersey, which made its debut at the 1994 Labour Day game. A retail version of the jersey as well as related merchandise including hoodies, shirts, caps and toques are available both at the Stamps Store's McMahon Stadium location and the online shop.
The new game jersey features red numerals outlined in white in the Stamps' custom font, white trim at the collar and armholes, a repeated pattern of "CGY" in silver on the sleeves, red-white-red UCLA striping on the shoulders, the white horse logo at the base of the collar on the front of the jersey and the "CGY" abbreviation in red outlined in white on the back above the nameplate.
For the second Labour Day Classic in a row, the Stamps' red helmet will feature a chrome version of the iconic horse logo and a centre stripe in a barbed-wire pattern. The pants are black with red-white-red striping and the uniform is completed with black socks.
The Stamps were the first Canadian Football League team to introduce a permanent third jersey when they unveiled black jerseys for the Labour Day Classic on Sept. 6, 1994. They capped the occasion with a 48-15 win over Edmonton.
In addition to making the black jersey a Labour Day Classic tradition, Calgary has worn the alternate uniform for additional regular-season and playoff games. The Stamps have an all-time record of 33-11 while wearing their black jerseys, good for a .750 winning percentage.
