It is with great sadness the Calgary Stampeders learn of the death of alumnus Kelly Malveaux. He was 47.

"This has been a very difficult time for the Stampeders family and we are deeply saddened by the loss of another member who is gone far too soon," said Stampeders president Jay McNeil. "Kelly was an important member of our Grey Cup team in 2001 and he was a wonderful teammate. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

A defensive back from Bellflower, Calif., Malveaux played three of his 10 Canadian Football League seasons with the Stamps, appearing in a total of 49 regular-season games for the Red and White from 2001-03. He was a member of the Stampeders' 2001 Grey Cup championship squad and played an important role in that year's West final victory over Edmonton with a pair of interceptions.

Malveaux also played for Saskatchewan, Montreal, Winnipeg and Edmonton in the CFL, with Amsterdam in NFL Europe, with Orlando in the XFL and with Sacramento in the United Football League.

The University of Arizona product played a total of 156 CFL games and registered 490 tackles and 17 interceptions. Malveaux was a CFL division all-star in 2004 and 2008.
