Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Stampeders Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) that will support football in Calgary Catholic and public high schools.
Twenty Calgary schools participate in both junior and senior football in three different divisions and four leagues with approximately 1,400 young athletes.
Funding from the Calgary Stampeders golf tournament, which is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25 at the Elks Golf Club, will be directed to the CSHSAA. Proceeds will assist high school programs cover costs for rental of the Shouldice Park fields, player equipment assistance and referees.
The Stampeders Foundation is the charitable arm of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club. The Foundation is working towards a healthier and brighter future for people in Calgary and southern Alberta through support of health and wellness, education and grassroots and minor football in Calgary and surrounding communities.
"Supporting and helping foster the continued growth of grassroots football is one of the primary mandates of the football club and the Stampeders Foundation," said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. "We're proud to partner with the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association along with all the other local amateur organizations and teams in our area including the Colts, the Dinos and all the levels of minor football."
The Stampeders have long supported amateur football as the majority of proceeds from all 50/50 ticket sales at Stampeders home games are directed to the Colts and the Calgary bantam program.
Last year, the Stampeders donated more than $250,000 to amateur football in Calgary.
Prior to the partnership, the Stamps had already actively supported high school football in a number of ways.
As part of a desire to ensure optimum safety for players, Stamps equipment manager George Hopkins volunteers his expertise and time to inspect amateur teams' equipment and ensure it is in proper working order. The club also donates uniforms and equipment to high school and minor football teams and joins forces with the officials to provide game balls for championship contests.
The Stamps video department works extensively with the CSHSAA. The Stampeders film all high school games played at Shouldice Park, facilitate game exchange between teams and provide and maintain support for Hudl, an online viewing, editing and scouting platform for use by coaches and players. The Stamps provide the best possible film and tools for high school coaches.
