Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD--The struggles for the Sioux Falls Stampede continued Friday night as the Herd fell 5-2 to the Lincoln Stars at the Sioux Falls Arena. Ian Mansfield and Justin Selman scored for the Stampede who fell to 8-9-1 on the season. Charlie Lindgren took the loss in goal with 35 saves. The Stampede have now dropped back-to-back games and are now 1-4-0 in their last five games.

The Stars grabbed the first goal of the game 5:22 into the game when Matt Friese scored on tip in off a shot from the high slot of Kevin Roy. The Stars would control the rest of the period, outshooting the Herd 18-6 and take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Stars added two more goals in the second period when Markus McCrea scored back-to-back goals, just 24 seconds apart. Both goals came off rebounds that couldn't be cleared in front of the net. The Stars outshot the Herd 16-6 in the period and took a 3-0 lead into the third period.

The Stampede awoke finally at 7:10 of the third period when Joseph Lordo's blast from the right point got deflected in by Ian Mansfield. Minutes later the Stampede went on the powerplay and broke and 0 for 25 streak when Justin Selman knocked in a loose rebound off a Matt Van Voorhis shot. The blast from Van Voorhis was stopped by Stars netminder Charles Williams, but Selman was right on the doorstep and slipped the puck under the pads of Williams to pull the Herd within one. Right as it appeared the Herd were back in the game, Mark Solyankin was flagged for tripping and the Herd were down a man. That was followed up by a delay for a broken glass that took nearly 10 minutes and the Stars took advantage scoring on the powerplay at 14:35 on a shot from the high slot from Colton Saucerman. Dax Lauwers added a goal with just 30 seconds remaining and the Stars rolled to the victory.

The Stars outshot the Stampede 40-21 on the night and finished 1 for 2 on the powerplay while the Stampede were 1 for 1. The Stampede will look to regroup and get back in the win column Saturday night when they host the U.S. Under-18 Development Team at 7:05 PM. It is also the Avera Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game and toss it onto the ice after the Herd's first goal. All of the stuffed animals will be collected and brought to the pediatric unit of Avera Hospital next week when the players make their annual visit.
